Historic Cemetery with marker:
This cemetery replaced the original cemetery from the nearby settlement of Ben Ficklin. The settlement was washed away by a flood on August 24, 1882. The cemetery was also flooded, exposing many graves. The graves were removed to this site.
This cemetery has been abstracted by SAGHS members. The abstracted information can be found in our Stalkin' Kin in Old West Texas quarterly publication:
Vol. 1, Iss. 12, Pg. 15.
Vol. 26, Iss. 3, Pg. 107-111 (A Brief History of Ben Ficklin Cemetery)
All issues of the Stalkin' Kin are offered for sale in the "Store" and also available at monthly meetings and other events. If you wish to pick up one at a monthly meeting, please give prior notice so we can be sure to have it on hand.
